PCHS Summer School Mentor Teacher

 

Reports to: Mr. Frank McMurray, PCHS Assistant Principal & Link Alternative High School Principal
Location: Link Alternative High School Classroom in Pathfinder

Dates: Tuesday, Wednesdays, & Thursdays from 8am-11am,  June 9, 2026-July 30, 2026 

(Approximately 9 hours/week for 7 weeks). There is NO SUMMER SCHOOL the week of June 29, 2026.

Compensation: $25/hour

Pinckney Community Schools is seeking a passionate and dedicated Summer School Mentor Teacher.   The ideal candidate will be committed to fostering a supportive, student-centered classroom environment, and demonstrate a strong commitment to helping each student earn credit in their Michigan Virtual credit recovery course(s).Key Responsibilities:

  • Complete required pupil accounting documentation and maintain records in compliance with state and federal requirements.
  • Complete Michigan Virtual mentor training if not previously certified.
  • Serve as the school-based mentor and liaison between the student, online instructor, school staff, and parents.
  • Assist with course enrollment and ensure courses are approved and aligned with graduation requirements.
  • Monitor student progress weekly, provide encouragement, and support students in staying on pace to complete coursework successfully.
  • Proctor required assessments and maintain a structured and supervised learning environment.
  • Communicate regularly with online instructors, students, families, and school staff regarding progress, concerns, and supports.
  • Advocate for students and help interpret instructor feedback, rubrics, and grading expectations.
  • Ensure online instructors are informed of IEPs, 504 plans, or other accommodations and support implementation locally.
  • Maintain a positive, supportive learning environment that promotes student independence and accountability.
  • Report final grades to pupil accounting and PCHS Counseling Office, support transcript updates, and ensure appropriate documentation is maintained for audit and pupil count purposes.
  • Utilize the Michigan Virtual Mentor Checklist to guide mentoring practices throughout the term.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience working with high school students to promote academic success.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in use of computers and related technologies and the ability to train and troubleshoot with students as needed.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to work cooperatively and in a positive manner with high school students, parents, building leadership, and Michigan Virtual instructors/support.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • College degree in a related field.
  • Previous experience working with students in an online technology setting.
  • Coaching/mentoring experience in an academic setting.

focus. The ability to travel to other buildings is required. The position requires the individual to sometimes work irregular or extended work hours and meet multiple demands from several people.
